A dry ball mill, also known as a dry mill, is mainly used in the grinding of finished products and raw materials in cement plants. It is also suitable for grinding various ores and other grindable materials in metallurgy, chemical industry, and electric power.

It is different from the wet ball mill in that it requires the material to be dry. It can be used for open-flow grinding and is also suitable for circulating ring-flow grinding combined with a classifier. The overall grinding effect is good.

Features of dry ball mill

1. Good grinding effect

The equipment optimizes the aspect ratio to prevent excessive grinding and achieve a better grinding effect; in addition, the opening rate of its grate plate is optimized the opening design is adopted, and the use of smaller grinding media can improve the grinding fineness.

2. Long service life

The dry ball mill adopts the grate plate type grinding tail discharging, the discharging is smooth, there is no rising and grinding phenomenon, the cylinder does not need to be cooled, the service life is long, and the failure rate is low.

3. Environmental protection and energy saving

The grinding media of the dry ball mill is reasonably proportioned according to the product requirements, with a high filling rate and high yield. In addition, the matching of the drive and grinding energy consumption is optimized for the equipment to better save energy. The dry ball mill is often combined with the classifier to form a closed system with negative pressure conveying and no dust pollution.

Dry ball mill structure

The dry ball mill has a simple structure and easy operation. The main structure is composed of a cylinder, two bearings and a transmission device. The cylinder is welded or riveted with general steel rods, and both ends are made of cast iron.

For sealing, the outer side of the end cover is generally equipped with reinforcing ribs to enhance the sealing effect. The middle of the cylinder is provided with a port for feeding and discharging.

Dry ball mill working principle

The dry ball mill is a horizontal cylindrical rotating device similar in working principle to grid-type ball mills, consisting of two chambers and driven by an outer gear. When the material is fed through the feeding device and enters the first chamber of the mill via the hollow shaft spiral, it is evenly distributed. This chamber has step or wave liners and is filled with steel balls of different specifications. The rotation of the cylinder generates centrifugal force that lifts the steel balls to a certain height before they fall, delivering a strong impact and grinding action on the material.

After the material undergoes coarse grinding in the first chamber, it passes through a single-layer partition plate into the second chamber. This chamber is lined with flat liners and filled with steel balls for further grinding of the material. The powdered material is discharged through the discharge grate, completing the grinding operation.
